Headshot of Dr. Craig Clayton, one of our Mountain Home dentists

‘‘I’m on your side, and you’re in control. If you need a break, feel uncomfortable, or have a question, I’ll always put my hands down and listen to you.”

Dr. Clayton grew up in Southern California but often traveled to Utah and Wyoming to visit family. When choosing a career, he knew he wanted to work with his hands, serve people, and continually improve his skillset. Dentistry was the perfect fit.

He completed his undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT. He then received his doctorate from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry in Lexington, KY.

Since graduating, Dr. Clayton has worked as an associate dentist and joined various dental organizations, including the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and the Academy of General Dentistry.

Patients describe him as honest, kind, relatable, and sincere. Dr. Clayton loves listening to patients’ stories, from work and hobbies to family and everything in between.

Helping patients feel comfortable in the dental chair and confident about their oral health care is extremely important to him.

Who Is Dr. Clayton Behind the Mask?

What do you do outside the office?

“As a family, we love to go boating in the summertime, skiing in the wintertime, and get outside to ride bikes, hike, camp, and take walks year-round.

Time alone and with friends is spent almost exclusively on two wheels! I live for mountain biking, bikepacking, and motorcycle riding. I enjoy these sports most in an endurance format; the longer and more challenging the ride, the better. Miles are best counted in the hundreds.”

Who is your hero, and why?

“Any person that indiscriminately and relentlessly loves, serves, and seeks to progress, protect, and better the human race, the environment, and all life that surrounds us. Ethereal, I know, but these are the real heroes to me.”

What was the best day of your life and why?

“I rode a motorcycle for the first time when I was 9 or 10 years old and became obsessed. I frequently bought 99 cents copies of Cycle Trader and circled all the ads for dirt bikes my size. My parents told me “no” to a motorcycle until my thirteenth birthday; they relented and went 50/50 on the cost of a dirt bike with me.

Why is this day important to me? It taught me the concept of possible selves, the necessity of hard work, and that dreams can become a reality.”

Ultimately, I chose a career that was highly competitive to enter, I was one of 66 in my dental school class. Over 2,000 students applied for those 66 spots. It was my ability to dream and pursue that dream relentlessly that helped me arrive where I am today.”
